Depression is a complex mood disorder than can originate from a variety of causes. Symptoms of depression include a sad or empty feeling, decreased interest or pleasure in daily activities, noticeable changes in sleep or appetite, the inability to think clearly, and feelings of low self-esteem. Anyone, regardless of age, gender, race or socioeconomic status, can suffer from depression. Dealing with depression can be challenging, but it is treatable with medication and therapy.
